Gameday Fashion at The University of Texas

Gameday fashion has gotten brighter than the floodlights and louder than the cheers in Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. And in the hours before kickoff, there is nowhere else to be in Austin besides Bevo Blvd. With the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center as our perennial home base, the Alcalde sent out a photographer to capture the street style at the Aug. 31, 2024, game against Colorado State. Some fans stopped to talk, but others were too eager to get to their seats. Based on the outcome of the game, we think their school spirit was clear.

Dre Dillard, mother of redshirt freshman offensive lineman Andre Cojoe (#77), dons shiny black boots and sunglasses to set off her burnt-orange gear.

Claire Reyes and Michael Saenz, BS ’18 (right), both turned their T-shirts into tank tops, better suited for the late-summer heat.

Fans are flaunting their school spirit with accessories, from sequined earrings (Amanda Rosales, BSN ’08, Life Member) to purse straps. The oversized necklace on Ethan Gromacki, UT class of 2027 (right), alludes to the “turnover chain” traditionally worn by a defensive player who forced an interception on the previous play.

From left, Amy Trevino matches her red, white, and blue nails to the flag accents on her Longhorn-themed sneakers; Barbara Lee wears a battery-powered fan around her neck, a game changer for any tailgater; Malcolm Santiago, a second-year geology student at UT, mugs for the camera.

Whether you opt for patterned overalls or a stadium-approved clear purse (Carol Ortiz-Burke, Life Member), these Longhorns prove you don’t have to choose between fashion and function.

Mariam is in the first year of her accounting master’s at UT.

From left, Tatum Forbis is an Austin-based model; Priscilla, the owner of these custom boots and the beaded purse strap (above), has been a season ticket holder for 10 years; E’myri Crutchfield is an actress known for roles in Fargo and Roots

This fan joins in on the overalls trend, with a mullet reminiscent of Quinn Ewers’ first year on campus.
