Another Longhorn Wants Oprah’s Job — And He’s In The Lead!

Last week, we introduced you to Leigh Cambre, BS ’03, BS ’05, who was hoping to be voted in as a contestant on an upcoming Oprah reality show to select the next TV star. The winner of the competition receives his or her own talk show on Oprah’s new network, OWN.

Well, another Longhorn wants a shot at it, and he’s won over the hearts of Internet users — and singer John Mayer — with his hilarious entry. Watch it. You won’t be sorry.

Zach Anner, ’07, a former Texas Student TV star, is currently in the lead for Oprah’s Your OWN Show video entries by more than one million votes.

Though he’s bound to a wheelchair due to cerebral palsy (the sexiest of the palsies, he says), Anner wants to host a travel show.

Not just any travel show, though — one for people who never thought they could travel.

“My travel show would be about how to have the perfect vacation when things don’t go as planned at all,” he says. “This would be something to prove to people that no obstacle is too big. No mountain is too high, no volcano is too hot, and no Atlantis is too underwater or fictional.”

On a video posted to his Facebook fan page, Anner promised to crawl the 2011 Austin Marathon if he got one million votes.

His antics have earned him double that as his video entry has spread across the Internet.

John Mayer posted it on his blog this weekend, calling Anner “outlandish without obnoxious.” And then later he promised to record a theme song for Anner’s show if he wins.

Voting (which you can do here) continues until July 3. Whether Anner is able to hold onto the lead or not, we’re sure this isn’t the last we’ll see of him.
