UT Tower Lands on Twitter’s Most Popular Posts of 2012

Visit Twitter’s year-end retrospective site, “2012 Year on Twitter,” and you’ll see the top tweets and Twitpics from the last 12 months—which range in topic from President Barack Obama to the Mars Curiosity Rover, to the London Olympics and…. the UT Tower?

Yep, that’s right. A shot of the Space Shuttle Endeavour’s flight past the UT Tower on Sept. 20 made the social network’s list of the most retweeted posts, top trends, and most fascinating stories of 2012.

The photo—taken by UT Department of Astronomy staffer Lara Eakins and shared on Twitter—is part of the site’s “Only on Twitter” category, which showcases the year’s “moments of serendipity and just plain awesomeness” that occurred organically.

We Longhorns have always recognized the significance of the 75-year-old Tower, but it’s nice that one of the most popular websites in the world is finally seeing it, too.
