SEC, Big 12 Champs To Meet in New Bowl Game

UT and A&M could meet again on the football field a lot sooner than anyone thought—theoretically.

Today the SEC and the Big 12 announced an five-year agreement for the champions of both conferences to meet in a postseason bowl game.

The matchup will only occur if neither conference champ is selected for the new four-team playoff format. If that happens, another team will be selected.

“A new January bowl tradition is born,” SEC commissioner Mike Silver said in an official statement.

The setup is similar to the one already in place between the Big Ten and the Pac-12 with the Rose Bowl.
