19th MLK Day March Kicks Off on Campus

Austin’s 19th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Community March kicked off from the UT campus yesterday.

UT President Bill Powers, State Rep. Dawnna Dukes, and African & African-American Studies professors Omi Osun Joni Jones and Edmund T. Gordon were among the opening ceremony’s speakers.

The march processed from the Forty Acres to the Capitol and to Huston-Tillotson University. From choirs to drill teams to Boy Scouts, the march had a real range of participants—and powerful moments.
