2011 Distinguished Alumnus Awards: John Barnhill [Watch]
John Barnhill, BJ ’59, Life Member, landed a journalism major’s dream job right after graduation: he was a reporter at the old Houston Press.
But life goes in unpredictable directions, and Barnhill soon left to become the first Houston salesman for Blue Bell ice cream. By the time he retired as executive vice president, the company had grown to national fame.
