Will Your Cable Provider Carry The Longhorn Network? Request It Here

Does your cable provider plan to offer the new Longhorn Network?
Find out right now by entering your zip code and provider name here. Longhornnetwork.com will be the network’s broadband home.
The new network devoted entirely to The University of Texas plans to launch in August, and partner ESPN has set up a form for you to request that your provider carry it if it’s not already in the works.
“This is yet another step leading up to our launch which will offer viewers unprecedented access to our sports programs and university in time for the fall season,” men’s athletics director DeLoss Dodds said in a statement. “But to make this a successful venture, we need the support of our alumni and fans. We encourage everyone to visit GetLongornNetwork.com and request Longhorn Network.”
The 20-year, $300 million deal between UT, ESPN, and IMG College will be the first of its kind in the country. While current and archival sports footage will represent the builk of what’s shown on the 24-hour channel, some of UT’s arts and academic programming will also be showcased.
President Bill Powers has already earmarked some of the money UT will get from the deal to go to the University’s academic side.
UT graduate and Texas Exes Life Member Stephanie Druley has been named head of production, and the network officially announced the network’s name and logo this week.

AT&T U verse is not among the provider selections.
@Bill you may have to enter your zip code first before it will show you the cable providers in your area
The zip code data base is outdated since it doesn’t have 78665 in Round Rock.
@Bill Williams – Thank you for commenting about your issue. We are looking into it.
Heres an idea, stop messing around with the dumb ass longhorn network crap and let your fans watch the Fing game!!! Who came up with this dumb ass idea anyways?
AGREED.
You would Think, ESPN and UT would have their Act Together?
Go God, The first Texas Game to be shown on LHN and it will not be seen by anyone UNLESS you are at the Game????????
This “Deal” was Worth How Much???
WTF?
@Bill. AT&T Uverse is listed for my zip code and it says they are NOT planning on carrying LN.
@Bill Williams – 78665 in Round Rock has been added as a selection on GetLonghornNetwork.com. This zip was absent as AT&T is expanding rapidly. Often times the providers have policies about promoting zips only when they’ve achieved a certain penetration level in an area.
(Just checked who would be carrying the Network. As of now AT&T, DirectTV, Grande, and Time Warner have NO PLANS to carry the Longhorn Network in Austin. How is this even possible?) Ummmm WTH?
Yeah this is Austin, the state capitol of Texas, why can our own town who house the University of Texas Longhorns football not even show the game on our own cable companies…something is not right!!!!! Not Time Warner of course not, ever!!!!
Just checked who would be carrying the Network. As of now AT&T, DirectTV, Grande, and Time Warner have NO PLANS to carry the Longhorn Network in Austin. How is this even possible?
Yeah, this is pretty bogus. According to the official site, no one is going to see the Longhorn network….I’ve tried a million austin and surrounding zips coupled with the different service providers and it always say, “There are no plans…blah blah blah”
I was wondering if instead of having a site to enter your zip code to find out if you are going to get it, if there is some place that has a master list of what city/service provider is planning on carrying it? I am from Tulsa OK and have requested it 5 or 6 times with no response. Any chance of this getting more widespread accross the nation?
I have done some digging. Apparently ESPN has priced this thing through the roof. Understand for Time Warner in Austin to launch it would cost them $150,000.00 a month. It will be like the NFL network. Other than the two games, there is not much on there. UT wanted to scalp all of the folks who did not come to the games with ESPN’s help and now it is going to get quite interesting.
I just received a call from a friend who works for UT. Said that there is a possibility that The Longhorn Network could fail before it ever gets started. What a shame !!! Greed !!
Any news about Direct TV carrying Longhorn Network?
Same here, there is no one I can find who will carry it. Will that change once it has officially launched?
Yeah i have directv in cbus ohio. No way im getting it to watch my horns. Sux. Whos even carrying this?
Longhorn Network needs to at least be available in Texas its first year… It’s not just football I’m looking forward to watching on LHN but also volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball etc. It will be a shame if a deal isn’t worked out. They shouldnt have excited everyone until they knew it was going to be broadcasted nationwide.
Who really wants to watch this network, better yet who would want to pay good hard earned money for this? One football game, a few basketball, and baseball games and maybe the UT Spelling Bee. Cannot wait to see who is crowned the new UT Spelling Bee Champion!!
It should not surprise anyone that no one is picking it up, as no one I know who follows Texas sports really cares about it or would pay for it.
I think that UT sold ESPN a bill of goods and over estimated the amount of people who really want to watch just a few games on this network. What happened is UT got greedy and thought that people would jump on this idea. Well so far no one is jumping onto this wagon, and in fact everyone seems to be either jumping off the wagon, or staying far away from it altogether.
UT should have been happy with the coverage from the networks that they were getting, they were on either FOX and ABC every week, even though they smelt up the stadium and the TV airways.
This may turn out to be a big Texas size flop of an idea, and it does not help the Big 12, or should I say the Weak 10 out at all. In fact it could to get rid of it all together.
You sound like an aggie or sooner or something. You also obviously don’t live in or around Austin because everyone around here is excited and willing to pay for it. I also heard today from a family friend who works for a cable company that Time Warner is close to making an agreement to carry the LHN….
I live in Pensacola FL. I cant wait to get the LHN and I am willing to pay to get it!! I bleed burnt Orange!!
\m/HOOK’EM HORNS\m/
Why would you pay extra to watch the same game as years before!? Whats changed? This is not NFL… Theres no way to justify this. Its not NFL. I will not be a fan of UT if this is the way they plan to go about things!!
it would have been nice if they the longhorns would have done thier homework before getting this thing going. i can’t believe it. i am sitting here not going to get the rice game. i have tried to get tickets for the game it is sold out already. maybe i might change my color to NOT. it is always going to be orange.
I can’t/don’t believe the LHN will be unavailable on the major providers. I, for one, live in Austin and have Uverse. As I have been unimpressed with the video quality of their service for the two+ years that I have been a member, I will definitely be dropping them if they don’t carry the network from day 1. I’ve been considering dropping TV services altogether for a while, and this will the tipping point for me.
I live in the Tulsa area. Can anyone tell me if I will be able to watch the Rice vs Texas game online by logging on to Longhorn Network from my pc since it seems that the game isn`t availble on TV?
ESPN needs to make LHN affordable and reasonable for 100% of TV providers. They need to focus on making the money through advertising. The reason why ESPN is so big is because every TV Service provider carries ESPN. ESPN should make LHN available to every service provider who already carries ESPN. Businesses sometimes don’t understand that more profit will come when you have quantity and not have select few paying higher rates.
So even people living in Austin might not get it? That’s ridiculous. So unless you’re at the stadium you won’t see the Rice game, isn’t that nice.
I put in my old zip code for San Antonio and it says that Time Warner Cable is currently not carrying the Longhorn Network. So what are we going to be just like last year when they said that time warner and espn parent company nbc could not come to a negotiated price for the channel.
If you start a network you should first find out if Dish and Direct well pick it up. After all this is the University Of TEXAS not Tijuana Tech. Hope the season ends on a better than the beginning.!!!!!
Thanks
AB
For those of you asking about Longhorn Network availability, my source at ESPN says they are in active discussions with all of the major cable and satellite providers and will have an announcement soon. My source suggested you call your local cable provider and tell them you want the Longhorn Network. My source was absolutely confident a major deal would be done before the Rice game.
Do you know if the Texas vs Rice game will be available live on the internet via Longhorn Network.com?
your internet carrier has to carry the LHN network…Time Warner does not. Sucks!
@Tim: Here we are hours before the game and no “Big” deal has been worked. Verizon is the only provider carrying this abortion of a network. I enjoy watching Texas so much that to miss this due to a near-sited greed fest may push me away from the team altogether. Just wait you other fans out there, your teams are next in this ridiculous race for more money. BTW, how many scholarship programs were spawned from this deal? My bet is none, unless you have a source at ESPN that has info as good as what he gave you two weeks ago.
@Vince: I don’t know of any scholarship programs to come out of this deal, but half of the annual $10 million UT gets will go to the academic side. http://alcalde.texasexes.org/2011/01/ut-espn-pair-up-on-300-million-tv-deal/
deleting comments aye?
This network has fail written all over it. No programming, no audience, no carriers, and $300M of buyers remorse
I went to Tijuana Tech and my entire congregation, neighborhood, as well as 1000 or so people outside of The Woodlands Mall signed a petition to ban the network in Montgomery County Texas. A vast majority were DirecTV subscribers. That’s not going to scratch the surface, but it’s a start. I have about 10 other friends in other counties doing the same thing. Good luck with the network deal.
Well, I am from montgomery county and everyone I know wants the LHN. You and your 1000 friends must not have a life if you are doing this. If you do not want the LHN, then don’t watch it. Nobody is forcing you.
The success of this outrageous network only ensures that other fans have to pay extra to watch their college favorites as well at some point. This is business pure and simple and they used a team with a large fan base to test the waters. No clear winner in this deal yet though. Hopefully their students reap some sort of benefit from this.
I guess the real question is who will carry the Longhorn Network at all?I called Dish and Direct TV in Houston and they did not know what I was talking about. After speaking to supervisors they say they will not be carrying it.
My parents who live in Llano just switched off their current provider to Direct TV because they had it. They had to keep asking for someone that has actually heard of the longhorn sports network but they finally found one that could confirm they get it. Hopefully that’s the same for Austin…
I called Direct TV last night and the csr told me that Direct TV will not carry the Longhorn Network! Does other provider have it in the Austin area?
What Dodds wants is for every cable and satellite subscriber to pay 40 cents per month for the Longhorn Network whether the subscriber wants it or not. I was concerned this was going to become a mandatory items for all the sports viewers in Texas. I support Texas A&M and UH. If I am forced to pay a Doss tax on my cable bill, I throw out cable and satellite TV. Don’t make me go all Tea Party on you. Keep your Longhorn TV. Enjoy it. Let those who want it pay for it.
I talked to Charter and they said they will not be carrying it either. So it looks like I’ll be missing the first game of the season. This just isn’t right!
So, without the LHN will I not get to watch ANY UT games on TV?
What about TX/OU?
Please help!!!!
Duh, ou is always on abc….as are many others.
http://www.nesn.com/2011/08/espns-longhorn-network-launches-friday-but-viewers-might-have-hard-time-finding-it.html
I don’t think any carrierwill air it if espn is wanting to chage half a buck per sub for one game, even if it is just Rice.
Hundreds of thousands of University of Texas graduates around the globe cannot watch their beloved college football team on TV or the internet anymore because there is no Longhorn Network carrier in their coverage area.
Thousands of Texas Exes across the globe will not be able to gather in fundraising activities to provide scholarships for future UT students, because they used to gather around football watching parties. Now they cannot.
Texas Exes across the globe will not be able to fully develop and sustain a sense of community in regions far away from Austin, Texas, because the Longhorn Network has taken away our ability to gather as a community around the football watching gatherings outside of Austin, around the globe.
With no sense of community outside of the Austin campus, with no fundraising outside of the Austin campus, with fewer scholarships funded, with fewer viewers of the Longhorn games globally, the University of Texas is cutting itself off from its global base of support, and risks becoming just another backwater football program that no one cares about outside of Austin. Is that what you want?
And think of this: if no one is watching the games because the can reach a television audience, all those advertising dollars are going to evaporate – because advertisers will only pay top dollar for advertising spots if they know they will reach the widest possible audience.
Don’t shrink the audience of college football. Don’t take away access to our Longhorn games! Don’t take away our Texas alumni football watching parties in places far away from Austin!
How does more limited access to Longhorn football make the University of Texas at Austin a GREAT institution?
HEY! I’m up here in the mountains with the bears (not Baylor type)in Gardiner, Montana. I have Direct TV and LHN was advertised up here but not delivered. What can be done to get LHN up here?
I’m sitting here reading all this in dismay as apparently one of the 105k and change people who will get to see the game. Honestly, if that’s how it’s going to be I’d damn near boycott simply on principle because that’s wrong.
As dozens have said and still are(myself included) willing to pay for the network I just can’t believe that I can’t get it. I mean I stand on my roof I see the tower….something’s wrong with the fact that I can’t turn around look through a window and watch the game don’t you think?
Austin Texas should be ashame of them self, we live here in the captial state and we don’t get to watch the longhorn game on our net works. When other little towns out of austin get to watch it.,from what i heard..if anything we should be the first ones getting to watch it. It’s all about money. What about the good old days when you got to see all the games on basic t.v, and back then you didn’t need cable.
Thanks for nothing Texas. We wait all year, buy your gear, and defend this network to other schools and in the end we can’t even enjoy it because of your greed.
Need it on Att uverse this is unacceptable.
Need to talk to ESPN about that. ESPN alone is the biggest reason your cable/satellite/IPTV bill is so high. They demand a ridiculously hight premium to carry their networks because they have all the leverage. They’re trying to strongarm carriers into carrying LHN, and thus far, the carriers are holding firm. Good for them. If you see major carriers start to pick up LHN, it will either mean ESPN caved (less likely) or your cable/satellite/IPTV bill will soon likely have another price hike (more likely). Thanks for nothing ESPN!
I’ve been defending the LHN out of sheer loyalty, despite my own misgivings about the obvious overtones of greed here, but the fans are going to turn on the university and ESPN if they can’t find a way to get the first game on the air. I think they should at least broadcast on the LHN website for free this week since they dropped the ball so badly here.
I agree with John!
I live in Dallas and can’t get the network through any of the cable providers or Direct TV… this just seems crazy. If it’s about making money it still isn’t working because even if I wanted to pay for it I can’t!
go to a sports bar and watch the first game for free with fellow longhorn fans…quit crying- you are all acting like this is the end of the world…
That’s the problem you can’t even go to a sports bar and watch it cause NO MAJOR CARRIER WILL HAD IT….
obviously you don’t know what is going on! the major carriers which the bars use WON’T BE OFFERING THE GAME!
It’s a real shame that Uverse has the BYU channel(for free), but don’t even have The Longhorn Network available for subscription. And hell yes, I’d pay extra for it!
it is pretty ridiculous here in Houston, or even Texas overall for this matter. its gone to be all about the $$$$$$ now, they dont give any care to the fans and alumni.. so sad to see this happen in reality.. i would pay extra for it if Uverse offered the stupid thing.
Pretty sad when friends in Dallas can watch the Longhorns play tonight and we are in the same city and we can’t…That is F’d up and I am more than pissed about this!
How about all UT sports broadcast their games on normal TV LIKE THE REST OF THE EFFIN COUNTRY!!!! UT has no place to be all high & mighty to have their own network, ESPECIALLY after last season. UVerse does NOT have to carry this stupid network!!!
I thought that’s why we pay for providers. Now to pay more to watch a couple of games. Let’s be honest. No one plans to watch anything else on that channel. I won’t be getting it. I thought the NFL needed to get there stuff straight, but I’m not missing a cowboys game am I.
I don’t understand why you are mad at the cable companies. Why aren’t you mad at the administration that is made this decision.
this network is crap. This is the first major mistake that the great university of TEXAS has done.
Let’s see, Big Ten Net (check), SEC Net (check), there is even a Mountain West Network (are you kidding me?). Shame on the Big 12 for botching putting their own network together. And you wonder why the conference is falling apart. In the meantime you have a school in Austin who pays back their alum and faithful by mis-launching their own network. The Pac-12 is smart enough to not go live until 2012 with their network to ensure it will actually be carried. I saw a bunch of Texas MBA shirts at the game Saturday. I hope they are using this fiasco as a case study.
For you DishNetwork subscribers out there, the number one requested channel to be added to their service is the Longhorn Network. The representative told me that if DishNetwork receives enough requests, DishNetwork will add it (provided the higher-ups negotiate a good contract). Here’s the number for DishNetwork 800-333-3474…it takes less than 1 minute to speak with a rep and get your name on the list!
We have all called our providers a 100 times it’s time for everyone to start calling ESPN and tell them to get into negotiations and offer it to the providers at a reasonable price
so we can all watch LHN.
I carry verizon -frios in georgetown texas and they do not carry the Longhorn only.network. Why not? Thet carry direct tv
