Storied ROTC Building Torn Down (Slideshow)

UT's ROTC building being demolished

Just a few short months after Russell A. Steindam Hall was decommissioned, the building that had housed the University of Texas’ ROTC since 1952 is crumbling to the ground. Or more accurately, being torn to the ground.

Construction crews have turned the building into a skeleton surrounded by a pile of rubble.

The building is being razed to make room for a new liberal arts building, which will have a floor designated for ROTC. In the meantime, the Army and Navy units will call the George I. Sánchez Building home, and the Air Force will be in Bellmont Hall.

The project is slated for completion in 2012. Construction on the East Mall has been ever-present in recent years with Steindam Hall coming down and the Student Activity Center going up. The SAC will open at the beginning of the new year.
