Will A&M SECede?

The national athletic conference drama has officially taken on the tenor of the Civil War in certain areas of the country. Just check out this clever T-shirt that was sent to us after apparently circulating around College Station.
Wonder what Gov. Rick Perry — an A&M grad who famously hinted at the possibility of Texas seceding from the Union — thinks of his alma mater potentially joining the Southeastern Conference?
According to the Houston Chronicle‘s editorial page, there’s jealousy at play in this potential move.
“Beating Mack Brown is the standard by which Big 12 teams are measured, and a lot of Aggies are ready for a different one,” commentator Richard Justice wrote. “That’s why A&M is considering something that would have been unthinkable until a few days ago. If they can’t beat ‘em, they might just leave ‘em.”

It makes me sad to think the Aggies would break a standing tradition of over 100 years. If Texas chooses to go to the PAC 10 and A&M goes elsewhere, I’ll wish them luck. I guess when we sing "…and it’s good-bye to A&M" will have a new meaning.
